Neighbors of the New York City police officer who was shot and killed in the line of duty Tuesday are speaking out.
Neighbors who knew 33-year-old Randolph Holder say he was a kind and respectable man. Police say
Holder originally emigrated to the U.S. from Guyana and lived in the Mill Basin section of Brooklyn.
Officials say he grew up in Queens where his family still lives.
Officials say Holder joined the NYPD in 2010 and was assigned to the Housing Bureau following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather who both served as Police officers in Guyana.
Police say officer holder was killed while responding to a report of shots fired at 102nd Street in Manhattan around 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Witnesses told police Holder and another officer began pursuing a suspect after a brief confrontation. They say the two officers exchanged gunfire with the suspect when Holder was shot.
Police say the suspect was caught a few blocks away with a gunshot wound to his leg.
New York City Police Commissioner William Bratton says this is the fourth officer murdered this year, but a total of six officers have been killed in the line of duty.
