Mold, leaking pipes and ceilings caving in. Those are just a few of the problems Linden Plaza tenants in East New York are dealing with.
"I've complained, complained and nothing happens, I don't know what to do," Sayquon Johnson, a tenant at Linden Plaza, said.
Since November, Johnson has filed multiple complaints with management and 311 for pipes leaking in his kitchen, an infestation of flies, mice and mold. All while living without a working sink or stove.
"I order food outside, and now my doctor she's telling me my pressure is up, what's going on your cholesterol is up," Johnson said.
A spokesperson for the owners of the building, R.Y. Management Co., Inc, responded to our request for a statement in an email saying,
"R.Y. Management Co., Inc. takes the health and well-being of the residents seriously, and it remains a top priority. We understand and are sympathetic to their concerns and have been working with HPD and the tenant’s association to address them. We have undertaken a proactive and aggressive approach to the rodent situation, which is also a city-wide problem, through a regular pest control program with an exterminating company. Rest assured, these measures are effective, and we are committed to their success. Water leaks remain problematic in the 53-year-old complex and are addressed as they occur. We ask for the resident’s cooperation in reporting problems using the 311 system and allowing workers access to apartments to remediate the leaks."
