The mother of a 3-year-old girl who was allegedly beaten to death by her father was arraigned Friday on charges of endangering the welfare of a child.
Kimberly Centos, 23, appeared in court one day after her daughter, Ginelis Jimenez, was found unconscious and unresponsive in the couple?s apartment at 145 MacDougal St.
Police say the toddler was savagely beaten by the girl?s father, 24-year-old Michael Jimenez. When Centos came home from work, she discovered her daughter with severe injuries to her head and torso. The girl?s ribs were also fractured.
Centos? aunt, Myda Can, says Jimenez admitted to the girl?s mother that he killed the child.
?From what we hear, he turned on the music really loud and told Kimberly that our baby was no longer with us,? Can says.
Jimenez then reportedly attempted to take his own life, and is now on suicide watch in the hospital. He faces second-degree murder charges.
According to Centos? relatives, the woman attempted to get out of the relationship with Jimenez by moving to Florida, but she returned after Jimenez begged her to come back.
?Kimberly was a great mom,? Can says, ?[She was] just going through a really bad domestic violence.?
The couple also has a 1-year-old son, who was hospitalized as a result of alleged abuse. On Friday, the judge legally barred Centos from being in contact with the child. The bail for Centos? release was set at $25,000.
