Monday marked five years since the earthquake that devastated Haiti.
Kennia Vernard, of East New York, survived the 2010 incident. She went to Haiti with her mother and sister to visit her grandmother. She says she was sleeping before being jolted by a loud noise.
"I thought it was a truck that ran through the house," Vernard told News 12.
Her relatives were able to escape injury.
Kennia says she has been back to Haiti since the earthquake. She says she would like to build a house and school there one day.
