324ds agoA viewer video taken overnight Thursday shows a massive moose at a high school in East Fishkill.
Gilberto Valentin spotted the massive animal going for a casual stroll outside of John Jay High School.
The New York Department of Environmental Conservation estimates the moose population in the state to be at about 650, mainly in the Adirondack region.
There was recently a string of sightings just over the state border. Photos were taken Monday in Bethel, Connecticut - that's 32 miles away by car.
The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection released an advisory for motorists to be cautious.
It's unclear if this wandering moose is the same one spotted in Connecticut.
DEC officials believe this is a young male who was looking for a home range and got off course.
News 12 was told the DEC will not take any action unless the bull becomes trapped, deteriorates in condition or becomes a nuisance. Officials say it's best to keep a healthy distance.
According to its website, "DEC and its research partners are also seeking information from the public regarding moose sightings to provide data for this study. If you have seen a moose please complete and submit a moose sighting report."
