More than 1,000 Brooklyn and city immigrants were sworn in as United States citizens Friday.Many say they have waited years for the opportunity. After handing in their green cards, the immigrants took an oath then stated the Pledge of Allegiance. The new status gives the residents their first opportunity to vote in November?s election. Officials from the New York Immigration Coalition say immigrants make up more than one third of all voters in the city.
