A Brownsville mother accused a school administrator Thursday of slapping her daughter in the face earlier in the week.
Maurissa Johnson says an assistant principal at P.S. 284 struck her daughter Alyssa, 9, over the girl's involvement in an altercation with a classmate.
Johnson says her daughter smacked another girl who had allegedly bullied her.
Later in the day, Johnson says the assistant principal slapped her daughter in the face with the other girl's hand as punishment.
Johnson complained, and says the assistant principal claimed it was an accident.
Johnson says she understands that her daughter deserved to be punished after hitting a classmate, but not in that manner. She says she wants the assistant principal punished.
"I don't even smack my child," Johnson says.
The Department of Education says it is investigating the allegation.
