The Bronx mother accused of abducting her own 4-year-old daughter appeared before a judge on Wednesday.
Dora Estrella Olarte was arraigned one day after an Amber Alert was canceled for Mia Olarte, who was found safe in Queens. Officials say the child is in good health and has been reunited with her foster family.
According to police, Olarte took the little girl, who has Down syndrome, during a supervised weekly visit at the New York Foundling in Mott Haven Monday night. She does not have custody of the younger Olarte.
The 48-year-old was walked out of the 40th Precinct in handcuffs Tuesday after being questioned. She told News 12 that she took Mia because she doesn't believe her daughter was receiving proper care, accusing the foster care agency of abusing children.
Olarte is facing a long list of charges, including custodial interference and acting in a manner injurious to a child under 17.
