A family in Queens is mourning the loss of a loved one who was shot while she was attending a vigil honoring someone else.
Shalimark Birkett was shot in the head Monday in Weeksville while attending a prayer vigil. She was 32.
"I can't take it ... I can't ... I'm going through too much," said Patricia Hamilton Birkett, Birkett's mother.
The family had arrived at the corner of Park Place and Howard Avenue Monday to honor Birkett's friend, Miles Bobbsemple. That's where Birkett was gunned down.
Hamilton Birkett also lost her son to gun violence two years ago. She's now seeking justice for both of her children.
"We must bring this killer to justice. We must comfort this family. We must quell this gun violence, and we can do it. And the time to start has always been now," said Rev. Gregory Livingston.
There are no arrests in either shooting, according to the New York Police Department, but both cases remain under investigation.
