The Mount St. Michael?s boys basketball team hosted the All Hallows Gaels Thursday for the first time in three years.
The teams used to play each other more often, but that ended when Gaels head coach John Carey left to go to Fairfield. Now, Carey is back and so is the game.
Mount came in with a 3-2 record for the season and the Gaels with a record of 1-6. Gaels forward Devon Collier had a game-high of 22 points before the fourth quarter, giving All Hallows a 49-47 lead.
Mount didn?t give up, stealing the game in the fourth quarter. With seconds left, the Gaels had a shot at the win, but their shot was blocked, and Mount won 53-51.
?We showed, obviously, we?re very inexperienced and we lack leadership and poise,? Carey said.
Mount was excited about the win. Player Gary Acquan said the victory over the Gaels will help the young team in the future.
