“It’s expensive, and it’s getting even more expensive," says Yonkers resident Altanise Whichard.
Commuters in the Hudson Valley tell News 12 affordability is a big concern.
“For the monthly pass to Yonkers, it’s already $233, which makes it kind of hard for a lot of people to be able to afford that," says April Platts, who commutes to Yonkers from Harlem.
Officials with the MTA say even with the increases, monthly ticket prices will still be lower than they were pre-COVID.
A new Day Pass will replace round-trip tickets and offer unlimited travel until 4 a.m. the next day. Mobile users will get a free ride after 10 trips in 14 days under a new pay-as-you-go discount.
The onboard ticket surcharge will increase by $2, including for tickets activated in the TrainTime app.
Reduced fares will remain available for seniors, people with disabilities, and Medicare recipients at all times.
