The MTA returned to Brooklyn Monday night to update residents on plans for the Interborough Express – a proposed train line that would connect Bay Ridge to Jackson Heights without entering Manhattan.

The 14-mile rail project is expected to link 17 subway lines and the Long Island Rail Road, offering direct service between Brooklyn and Queens neighborhoods that currently require lengthy transfers. The MTA says the IBX could cut some commutes down to 40 minutes and serve up to 115,000 riders per day.

Commuters like Grace Eduno say the project would make a huge difference.

“It takes about two hours or more,” she said of her current commute from Queens to Borough Park.

Another commuter, Keya Cateau, told News 12, “I think it would be great for the people of Brooklyn and Queens.”

Tuesday's open house was held at Maimonides Medical Center in Borough Park. Residents were invited to attend and ask questions about how the project could impact their neighborhoods during construction.
