New York City transit officials are planning to make service adjustments that will affect commuters in 2023.
With ridership still below pre-pandemic levels, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority says they're making these changes to adjust to the new trends they've seen in ridership. The MTA says Mondays and Fridays have the slowest ridership recovery, so these new changes will impact several lines.
According to MTA officials, there will be reductions to 1, 6, E, F, L, and Q lines on Mondays and Fridays.
The cuts in service will allow for additional trips on the G, J, and M lines on weekends, extending service between Brooklyn and Queens. Th New York City transit is also considering an earlier start to weekday express and local service on the A and C lines.
In response to these changes, the Transport Worker Union said the longer wait times riders experience on Mondays and Fridays may actually be longer than described.
