The MTA has proposed to raise the fare of a base fare MetroCard ticket from $2.75 to $2.90.
For weekly tickets, riders are looking at a $1 jump to $34. For monthly tickets, an increase of $5 would bring the total to $132.
The proposal comes as ridership continues to rise after plummeting during the pandemic. Riders told News 12 say the hike is just too soon.
Public hearings will take place in June and the MTA board will vote in July. If passed, the new prices will go into effect by Labor Day.
