The MTA announced on Friday that it is sending some of New York’s oldest subway cars to New Jersey for their final journey on the rails.
The organization is removing old model subway cars knows as R-32's, or Brightliners, from service.
Both cars carried their first passengers back in the 1960's. Those out of service cars are being transported to Jersey City on barges to be turned into scrap metal.
Jersey City conductors will drive the old train cars by rail to Ohio where they will be recycled or thrown out. Some of the parts will be sold as collector items.
