The MTA has released a statement in the aftermath of Sandy, saying the hurricane is the most devastating disaster to impact the New York City subway system in its 108-year history.
MTA Spokesman Aaron Dovan says it will take some time for crews to fully assess the damage to the transit system, which was completely shut down Sunday night in anticipation of the storm.
Transit officials say they're committed to restoring public transportation as quickly as possible.
