MTA officials discussed plans to test out subway platform screen doors after several instances of people being shoved onto subway tracks on Thursday. 

There have been major concerns from commuters about how safe it is riding the subway.

Mayor Eric Adams admitted he doesn't feel safe at times in the stations and on the train. The MTA is trying to improve the riding experience for people who depend on the subway system as their primary form of transportation.

The pilot program would install platform barrier doors to prevent anyone from accessing the subway tracks before the subway train pulls into the station.

The first stations that could see these barriers will be the Times Square Station, 3rd Avenue station in the East Village, and the Sutphin Boulevard stop where the JFK air train connects in Queens.

However, no date has been set yet for when they will be installed.

Councilmember Alexa Avéila has been vocal about the need for improvement, saying, "I think we have to be very focused on purpose here, which is to save lives and to make a better commute for us all in the long term."

MTA leaders gathered virtually to further discuss the platform door and a possible timeline for the project.
