A major investment in the future of New York City's subway system is taking shape.

The MTA is replacing aging trains that have been running since the 1980s.

More than 2,300 subway cars will be purchased, replacing nearly a third of the current subway fleet.

MTA Chairman Janno Lieber says this is part of $68 billion in funding acquired by Gov. Kathy Hochul.

Officials say riders can expect to see the upgrades and new cars by 2030.
