A 64-year-old MTA worker is recovering after being stabbed late Monday night inside a Brooklyn subway station.
It happened around 10:39 p.m. at the Nostrand Avenue station on the 3 line in Crown Heights. Officials say the worker was stabbed in the neck while on the platform. He was rushed to Kings County Hospital and is in stable condition.
The attacker, described as a man in a black and white shirt, ran into the tunnel and has not been caught.
Video from inside the station shows NYPD strategic response teams and detectives swarming the platform after the attack.
Some riders say that while officials are pointing to lower crime in the subway system, their day-to-day experiences feel different. Emma, who commutes through Brooklyn, said she’s frustrated: “They keep raising the prices on the trains and it does not get any safer. There’s a real mental health crisis that needs to be dealt with.”
According to the NYPD, transit crime in Brooklyn North is down 3% this year compared to last. Gov. Kathy Hochul also recently said subway crime citywide fell to record lows this summer.
