MulchFest is back again this year to provide residents with places to recycle their Christmas trees.
This year marks the 19th annual citywide MulchFest, sponsored by the city's Parks Department.
Dozens of volunteers, many of them local high schoolers, came out to Prospect Park despite the cold temperatures to assist with the event.
The trees brought to the 85 locations around the city are ground into mulch, which is then used in city gardens and parks.
The Parks Department says about 30,000 trees were mulched last year, with 9,000 coming from Brooklyn alone.
