Sunday was the last day for New York City residents to bring their old Christmas trees to any of the city's Mulchfest chipping locations.
The Parks Department has 74 tree drop-off locations around the city that were set up the day after Christmas. For this weekend only, 35 of them were transformed into Mulchfest sites - where staff gave residents bags of fresh mulch in exchange for the old trees.
There are five locations in the Bronx and 11 in Brooklyn.
The program has been held for more than 20 years. The Parks Department estimated that it has mulched between 25,000-30,000 trees on average every year.
In Van Cortlandt Park, staff say they've mulched 460 trees Saturday and more than 60 on Sunday.
The Sanitation Department will be collecting and composting clean trees left at curbs until next Saturday.
