The murder rate is rising in several Brooklyn neighborhoods even as the citywide rate is falling, according to NYPD figures.

Murder is up 8 percent so far this year to 104 victims in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brownsville, Bushwick, Crown Heights, East New York, Fort Greene, Greenpoint and Williamsburg.

The neighborhoods have also seen a rise in non-fatal shootings.

However, the murder rate has dropped 18 percent so far this year overall across the city. Last year, 428 people were murdered compared to 351 this year.

Some residents complain the police presence is not great enough to curb the violence. Others attribute the killings to not enough jobs and a lack positive recreational activities.An NYPD spokesperson says the increased number of arrests in the areas indicates police are trying to cut murder rates.
