The latest statistics from the New York City Police Department show murder rates in Brooklyn and in the city have increased this year so far.
According to the NYPD, serious crime rates, such as murder and rape, were up in northern Brooklyn. But in southern Brooklyn, murder rates were up 19 percent, whereas other crime rates, such as rape and robbery, were down.
Overall the crimes rates in Brooklyn and the city have decreased slightly since last year.
