Tashayna Patterson says her 5-year-old autistic daughter was found wandering - instead of on the bus at dismissal for P.S. 013 Roberto Clemente in East New York on Monday.
Patterson claims she got a call from the school saying they couldn't find her daughter.
Patterson's daughter Kylie was seen wandering in the street by another bus driver who was not hers, according to a New York City Schools incident report.
The report says the driver then brought Kylie back into the building.
“My daughter could have been dead. I was devastated at work I could not think it brought so much distress I was heavy hearted," said Patterson.
Patterson says Kylie normally has a paraprofessional assigned to her.
She also says she plans on taking legal action and says she wants to transfer Kylie to a different school. News 12 spoke with the family's attorney Troy Griffith.
“We want justice for little Kylie, 5-year-old Kylie, as well as her mother. And yeah, and we also want to see some changes implemented in the school so they can follow proper protocol in terms of ensuring the safety of children," said Griffith.
News 12 reached out to New York City Public Schools and a spokesperson said:
"We take the safety of our students extremely seriously – this incident is unacceptable. We have launched an investigation into this incident and we will take the appropriate follow up actions.”
