#N12BK: Cash for bystanders who help police
The NYPD is offering cash to innocent bystanders who help police take down suspects.
The Sergeants Benevolent Association is offering $500 rewards to those who aid officers at the time of an arrest.
Examples that qualify for the cash reward are helping an officer struggling with a suspect.
“When you see an officer struggling, rather than take your cellphone out, assist the officer and you’ll receive an award of $500,” SBA President Ed Mullins told the New York Post.
The SBA posted to its Facbook page Wednesday to announce it is working with Brooklyn state Sen. Martin Golden, a retired cop, who is introducing a new good Samaritan law to protect Good Samaritans who help cops.
