Today is National Voter Registration Day.
The race to Election Day has been met with a lot of political surprises.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, 28, defeated 10-term congressman Joe Crowley, winning the Democratic primary in New York's 14th Congressional District, covering parts of the Bronx and Queens in New York City.
Julia Salazar also defeated state Sen. Martin Dilan for the 18th State Senate District, which spans parts of Brooklyn including Greenpoint, Williamsburg, and a large swath of Bushwick.
In order to vote in November's upcoming election, mailed applications must be postmarked by Oct. 12 or submitted in person the same day.
City officials say 216 libraries across the city will double as voter registration centers.
Election Day is Nov. 6.
