Nassau Crime Victims Center opens in Syosset, fills gap after closure of Safe Center LI

A new resource for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault opened Friday in Nassau County, addressing a gap left after the Safe Center LI closed last year.

Executive Director Laura Ahearn says the center offers a 24-hour hotline, counseling, courtroom and medical accompaniment, and on-site orders of protection.
“We’ll actually be able to do orders of protection right from here in the office,” Ahearn said.
The facility includes therapy rooms, a clothing closet for job interviews and daily needs, a child-friendly space, and more. Staff will provide around-the-clock crisis response and support, including accompanying victims to police precincts.
“I think that’s great that they have options and know that they can have support,” said Kathy Vassallo, of Hicksville.
Ahearn says the center is fully operational and ready to serve residents across Nassau County.
