As the Brooklyn Nets gear up to tip off a brand-new season at Barclays Center, excitement isn’t just building on the court- it's spilling out into the surrounding neighborhoods, where small businesses are hoping for a slam dunk of their own. Muhammad Ahmed, owner of Kemos Hot Kitchen, says game days bring more than just energy. They bring customers. “It’s definitely a win as well for the business,” Ahmed said. “We will probably get more customers.” And he’s not alone. For many nearby businesses, Nets home games are more than sporting events — they’re opportunities to connect with the community and stand out in a city often dominated by big-name chains. Leeah Ramkissoon, a cashier at a local shop, sees the season as a shot at something bigger. "Sometimes people may not be willing to try something new,” she said. “It’s going to bring a lot more exposure to us.” One standout example is Electric Lotus Tattoo, a Fort Greene staple since 1993. This season, they’re teaming up with the Nets to offer flash tattoos for fans blending team spirit with local flair. “I think this is a huge way to honor a partnership with local communities and bring in vibe to Fort Greene to Brooklyn,” said Jae Connor, owner of Electric Lotus Tattoo. And the community focus doesn’t end there. On Thursday, Levels Barbershop will be offering free haircuts for fans until 6 p.m. one more way local businesses are giving back and getting involved. From food to fresh cuts to permanent ink, the season is already off to a strong start not just for the Nets, but for the neighborhood they call home.
