Hundreds of affordable housing units are now open in the heart of Downtown Brooklyn.
Near the Manhattan Bridge at 90 Sands St., affordable housing units are opening for those who are in need.
The new development has been in the making since 2018 and takes the place of a former Jehovah's Witnesses hotel. The units each include a full bathroom and kitchen.
About 100 rooms have already been given out as the thousands of applications sent in are being combed through to assign the rest of the space. The organization plans to have this place fully housed over the next few months.
Officials say they hope to use the passing of Gov. Kathy Hochul's hotel conversion bill to continue repurposing old hotels into affordable and supportive housing.
