Brooklyn has a new destination for families seeking space and community: 544 Carroll, a 17-story boutique building that combines thoughtfully designed apartments with shared spaces that bring neighbors together.
Residents Anajha and Parth Vinayk say the apartments strike the perfect balance between private and communal living.
“You can kind of make the apartment your own. So, we have like our own dining space, living space, little play area for him, and my little work area. And I think it’s nice that there’s so many communal spots,” they explained.
The building, developed by Avery Hall, features 133 units with layouts ranging from one- to four-bedroom homes and soaring 9-foot windows, a rare find in New York City.
“We have three bedrooms, even up to four bedroom homes, we look to provide a platform for families that are looking for larger spaces to stay in New York and to thrive in New York,” said Jesse Wark, Avery Hall partner and co-founder. Amenities at 544 Carroll are designed to feel like home while fostering community.
Residents can enjoy a planted courtyard, a gym, a children’s cave and a private dining lounge, all intended to encourage connection.
“We do a lot of community programing. So, we really want to kind of activate the spaces and encourage people to hang out and foster that community,” said Michelle Easterlin, vice president of residential leasing and marketing at Avery Hall. The surrounding neighborhood is also evolving.
New retail spaces are opening nearby, creating additional jobs for local residents.
“With the new development, there is a lot more retail opportunities and there are jobs to come from that, which is great, especially right there on the canal with the promenade,” Easterlin added. With 60% of homes already leased, Avery Hall is looking forward to welcoming more residents to 544 Carroll, a rare combination of family-sized living, thoughtful design and a strong sense of community in the heart of Brooklyn.
