The new charter school called the Children's Aid College Prep School held a lottery today for 63 open slots when the school opens this August.
The school will not only provide an education to the children, but also health care.
In all, more than 500 families applied for the available slots for Kindergarten and first grade.
Each applicant was awarded one lotto number. Additional numbers were given to applicants who met certain criteria, including being on welfare or coming from a home that falls below self-sufficiency standards.
The school says that it will hold another lottery next year due to the large number of applicants.
