New medical technology is helping doctors better care for women who are giving birth, even potentially saving their lives.

The new Triton Tech system has been used for all 250 deliveries that have taken place at NYC Health + Hospitals/North Central Bronx since last October.

The machine uses artificial intelligence to quantify the amount of blood lost during delivery cases of all kinds.

The city’s newest report shows that almost half of the 51 pregnancy-associated deaths in New York City in 2020 were Black women, the most of any ethnicity. One-third of those 51 deaths were Bronx residents, the highest of any borough.

Doctors say the new Triton system is a game-changer, and the technology is now being rolled out across NYC Health + Hospitals locations across the five boroughs.
