The Bronx Arts Ensemble now has its first Black female executive director. Judith Insell was born and raised in the Bronx.
In middle school, Insell was assigned to play the viola and hasn’t stopped since.
She has performed on "Saturday Night Live," on an album with Beyonce and on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert."
Insell says she believes in arts education for all students, especially in the Bronx. “It is definitely about reaching the children and the communities, so when we are not teaching in the school, which is all the time, we are also visible as a performing arts institution,” Insell says.
The Bronx Arts Ensemble is a nonprofit that has been in the area since 1972. Insell says she wants to continue the mission of arts education for children and performing for communities around the Bronx.
