A new food pantry is helping dozens of people in Canarsie.
Organizers say in just the few weeks since opening, they've seen just how much need is in their community.
The pantry is made possible by the organization Our Lady Charity and gives out food every Saturday at the Glenwood Houses Community Center along Farragut Road.
Organizers tell News 12 that in the month and a half that they have been serving the community, the amount of people who come for the services has already grown. They say they’ve served as many as 200 people in a single day – giving out ham, milk, vegetables and rice.
All of the food is delivered by the city, but organizers say that are more people come for assistance, they will need more help in the form of donations and volunteers.
Our Lady Charity also works to help those in need with housing and job search.
The pantry is open every Saturday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.
