A Sheraton is slated to open on Duffield Street and some Brooklyn residents are pleased with the plans so far.
Architects say the Sheraton hotel will be one of the first commercial buildings to be built since the Downtown Brooklyn rezoning plan. Downtown Brooklyn Partnership representative Michael Burke says the rezoning allows taller buildings to be constructed in the area. Burke adds Brooklyn is in need of more hotels. Residents and store owners hope the hotels bring more business and money to the area.
A city park, parking garage and a mixed-use building are also expected to come to Downtown Brooklyn as part of the rezoning plan. Burke says residents can also expect more hotels in addition to the Sheraton.
