Students will soon be able to enjoy a new playground at Robert C. Dodson School in Yonkers.
State Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins and Sen. Shelley Mayer secured $250,000 in state funding for the project.
“A child's job is not just to go to school, part of what they are supposed to be doing is playing,” says Stewart-Cousins.
The current playground is about 21 years old, and residents say the community is in need of a new one.
"Sometimes you go out there, you look at it now, it seems a little bit depressing,” says parent Heriberto Baez.
Mayer says the new playground will be inclusive for all students.
"We are going to build a beautiful new ADA and disability welcoming playground that is going to represent the best of new playground equipment and the opportunity for our kids to play,” she says.
Construction will start in the coming weeks. The goal is to have children going down the slides by spring 2023.
