Community organizations in the Bronx are hosting the Know Your Rights series workshop, helping young adults in New York learn their rights and know what to do if they encounter police.
The Legal Aid Society, NYC Health + Hospitals and Guns Down, Life Up came together to make this workshop in an effort to help the youth understand their rights and stay out of trouble - not only on the streets but online as well.
The first half of the workshop is focused on learning the Miranda Law and what it means if those aren't read. The second half is about how to react in an encounter with police and how to deescalate a problem with police the correct way.
Two more workshops will be hosted in the coming days at Lincoln Hospital, further focusing on how young adults can protect their rights.
