New Jersey is calling on all residents to conserve water at home and at work after last week’s heat wave.
The state saw five consecutive days of temperatures at or above 100 degrees, which left parks and people’s homes with brown, dry grass.
"Don't like it at all because I have the same thing on my yard,” said Bohdan Kalembka, of Piscataway. "I have a lot of grass that I spend a lot of money on maintaining and now I'll have to start all over again."
The state is calling on people and businesses to conserve water, recommending people only water when needed and use native plants that require less water.
People in Union Beach say they are being especially mindful of water use.
"Definitely horrible,” added Gloria Bribe, a Union Beach resident. “My yard looks like a straw thing. We've stopped watering the grass because it's useless. We just water our front. Our back is like dead."
