The New York Jets rookie minicamps kicked off on Friday at the Jets training facility in Florham Park.
After a whirlwind of the NFL draft, the new players got a taste of what it means to be a New York Jet – including first-year head coach Robert Saleh.
“We just had our bigs out there and we’re going through and the horn blew for practice to be over and I started to take my normal spot behind the huddle to listen to the head coach speak, and I was like, ‘Oh, that’s me,’” Saleh says.
Saleh says that rookie camp is all about introductions. He says that he wants his players to show him what they are all about.
“For them to really introduce who they are and what we can expect day in and day out and not to leave gray areas in the identity that they want to portray. So that’s the message, that’s the biggest goal of this entire weekend – a good, clean introduction,” Saleh says.
For fourth-round pick running back Michael Carter, Saleh is already making an impression.
“I can’t wait to play for him already. He’s a great coach. He wants to have fun doing it. He wants to have high energy and that’s me and I’m excited to play for him,” Carter says.
The Jets’ new quarterback Zach Wilson is also making the rounds, especially among his offensive teammates like fellow first-round pick Alijah Vera-Tucker and second-round pick Elijah Moore.
“For one, I’m ready to put this helmet on and I’m ready to watch him look pretty throwing me balls,” says Moore.
“I know [Wilson] is a hard worker. I’ve seen what he does on the field. That’s al you can really ask for from a guy,” says Vera-Tucker.
Also training at Jets rookie camp is Lyndhurst native and former Monmouth University running back Pete Guerriero.
The minicamp runs through the weekend.
