A new law taking effect across New York State Thursday stops insurance companies from mandating that patients fill their prescriptions through a mail-order pharmacy.
Under the new law, drugs and co-pays will cost the same whether medications are bought from a local pharmacy or through a mail-order service.
Local pharmacists support the measure, saying customers will be able to talk face-to-face with a pharmacist about their prescriptions and the law will also keep local pharmacies open.
