A new ambulatory care center has opened in Fort Hamilton. It's part of the expansion of NYU Langone Health in Brooklyn.
"It's beautiful, clean, large. It's really awesome," said Dr. Rosemary Ruggiero, an OB-GYN generalist with NYU Langone Health and clinical assistant professor at NYU Grossman School of Medicine.
The new two-level facility features a coordinated-care approach, bringing physicians and providers from existing locations throughout Brooklyn into one centralized location.
"To have patients come in for their routine OB exam and then to walk around the corner to get scanned is tremendous," Ruggiero said. "It's very convenient. Now we can collaborate all in one building."
The health services include gynecology, maternal fetal medicine, family planning and urology.
"This facility here is important to us because it has given us the opportunity to grow into the size department that we currently are," Dr. Frederick Gulmi, a urologist with NYU Langone Health and clinical associate professor of urology with NYU Grossman School of Medicine, said.
The ambulatory care center is the latest addition to NYU Langone Health facilities in Fort Hamilton. It's part of the health system's plans to create a growing hub for healthcare in Brooklyn.
Dr. Gulmi described the Brooklyn facility as "getting the same quality care that they would be receiving if they were going into Manhattan."
There are additional plans for a 120,000-square-foot ambulatory care center that will include surgical procedures to open in Sunset Park in the fall.
