Drivers in Bay Ridge struggling to find a parking spot will soon have some relief with a new parking garage opening in the neighborhood this month.
An executive from Century 21 department store confirmed that they will be opening a new public parking garage on 88th Street. Century 21 says the garage will bring 300 new spots to the crowded area at reasonable rates.
"Our community strip is thriving, which brings a lot of people to the community, and parking is often very hard to come by," says Josephine Beckmann, of the Community Board.
Beckmann says ongoing parking problems forced the board to add a new committee on maximizing public space. The board also hopes the extra parking will help put an end to cars attempting to use the sidewalk for parking.
While the garage will be open to the public, the Century 21 executive says customers will get parking benefits for shopping.
