Some Brooklyn parents took the opportunity Saturday to become acquainted with the new principal of their children's school.
Dr. Michael Wiltshire took over as principal of the Boys and Girls High School in Bedford-Stuyvesant in October. He spoke to a crowd of parents at the school to share his new vision for it.
Wiltshire wants to increase graduation rates, saying that students should graduate in four years. He also wants to raise attendance rates and grow the school's acceptance rates to college.
While some parents say Wiltshire's plan to increase the students' course load and add foreign languages to the curriculum is a benefit, others remain skeptical about the plan.
Wiltshire says his previous school, Medgar Evers College Preparatory School achieved both a graduation rate and acceptance rate into college of 98 percent.
