21ds agoBronx Councilmember Oswald Feliz introduced a bill Wednesday aimed at helping store owners cover security costs from thieves.
The Small Business Protection Act is aimed to improve safety measures for mom-and-pop shops by making sure they all can afford security cameras, alarms and plexiglass at their registers.
His plan is another attempt to deter retail theft and burglaries across the city. Gov. Kathy Hochul proposed a similar plan designating $45 million to the initiative. Officials say the bulk of that state funding will go toward a new theft unit within the NYPD, and $5 million will go toward better security measures at small businesses.
