A new report from the city comptroller proves what many Brooklyn residents already know: homes in the borough are crowded.

The report coming out of Comptroller Scott Stringer's office reveals one in 12 homes in New York City are crowded.

The report breaks down the problem into two categories: crowded, when there's more than one person per room in a home, and severely crowded, which is when the average in a home works out to more than one and a half people per room.

Brooklyn saw the largest increase in the proportion of crowded dwellings at a jump of a little more than 28 percent.

Meanwhile, the severely crowded homes in Brooklyn are also on the rise jumping more than 49 percent.

This housing problem affects nearly 1.5 million New Yorkers.
