Police in New Rochelle have added a mobile crisis response team to help with mental health calls.
The team is made up of mental health professionals from the Guidance Center in New Rochelle.
They will respond along with, and in some cases in place of, police officers for calls involving people in mental crises.
The initiative is part of the Westchester County Department of Community Mental Health Services, Project Alliance.
Dispatchers have been trained to distinguish which calls need the help of a mental health professional.
