A new service in Brooklyn called GoLocker is looking to serve as a safe space for your packages.
According to the Department of Transportation, 90,000 packages are reported stolen in New York City every single day. GoLocker is a membership service that gives consumers the safety of having their packages delivered to lockers of their choice to pick up at their convenience.
Founder and CEO Nigel Thomas created the company after years of working in logistics and noticing a need for package lockers in the United States, which are already popular in parts of Europe.
“More people [are] switching their shopping habits from brick-and-mortar stores to shopping online,” said Thomas. “ [If] you’re working one or multiple jobs, sometimes it can be very difficult to receive a package.”
These lockers will soon be popping up across the five boroughs, and GoLocker says it is partnering with Locker NYC, a free pilot program from the city’s Department of Transportation. The city plans to put these lockers in outdoor locations as part of an initiative to cut down on package thefts.
GoLocker currently has nine lockers across Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan but plans to expand to all five boroughs soon.
