The brand-new skate park at Golconda Park has officially opened.
New York City Parks Commissioner Mitchell Silver says the skate park is about the length of a football field. It was part of a $3 million renovation that also replaced old basketball courts and refurbished handball courts.
The plaza was designed by the state Department of Transportation with the help of well-known skate park designer Steve Rodriguez. Rodriguez says he started the design process with the DOT two years ago.
Parks Commissioner Silver says the next project at Golconda will be fixing the comfort stations.
