Hundreds of teachers from across the city are in Brooklyn today kicking off New Teacher Week learning new tools to help them start the school year off right.
Newly hired teachers arrived at Kings Theater this morning for the start of a three-day professional learning event ahead of the school year. Teachers will be learning valuable information and resources about the city’s Department of Education and participate in a variety of learning sessions.
Today's event was in-person on a main stage conference with remarks from Schools Chancellor David Banks and United Federation of Teachers President Michael Mulgrew.
UFT President Mulgrew says their ultimate goal is for teachers to stay in this profession for the long term especially as the country is experiencing a nationwide shortage. He also hopes this event will help give teachers the start they need.
Next Thursday, those teachers will welcome thousands of students for the very first time.
