New Yorkers will see extra money in their pockets, a first-of-its-kind policy for pregnant women, and the controversial congestion pricing are just a few of the changes going into effect in 2025.
Minimum Wage
Those who live in New York City will see minimum wage go up 50 cents to $16.50 per hour.
As for the rest of the state, minimum wage will be $15.50 an hour.
Paid Pregnancy Leave
New York State employers must now offer at least 20 hours of paid time off for pregnant workers so they can attend pregnancy-related medical appointments, like sonograms.
Gov. Kathy Hochul said no woman should have to choose between a paycheck and a check-up, which is why she pushed for the nation’s first paid prenatal leave policy.
Congestion Pricing
Legal challenges couldn’t pump the brakes on the city's congestion pricing.
The new plan starts Sunday, Jan. 5.
Drivers will be charged at least $9 to enter Manhattan below 60th Street during peak hours.
Drivers who do not use EZPass will face higher tolls of $13.50, and they will be billed by mail.
